Gus van den Brink, Executive Director

Executive Director of Sertoma Centre, Inc. since 1993. A graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a licensed clinical social worker. He holds professional memberships with the National Association of Social Workers and Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities. In 2002, Mr. van den Brink was the chosen recipient of the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, Inc’s Don Burke Award for Executive Excellence.

Paula Phillips, Assistant Executive Director

Assistant Executive Director of Sertoma Centre, Inc. since 1989. She has a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences and a master’s degree in management from National Louis University. She is responsible for managing all program services, including developmental training, school transition, mental health, seniors, Insite community employment services, residential, community integrated living arrangement (CILA), foster care, home-based services, and specialized services.

Michele Arthur, Associate Director Of Program Services

Michele has been at Sertoma Centre since February, 1996. She began as DT service coordinator and then moved to the PSR program as Mental Health Professional in 1998. She has been Mental Health Services coordinator, manager, director, and now Associate Director of Program Services. In this role, Ms. Arthur oversees all programs located at the Martha Polacek Facility.

Michele has a bachelor of arts in theology from University of St. Francis and a master of arts in counseling psychology from St. Xavier University. She is a licensed professional counselor (LCPC) and a certified psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner (CPRP).

Related employment on her resume includes teaching assistant with special ed students for seven years; teaching Abnormal Psychology at Prairie State College from Spring semester 2002 through Spring semester 2005; training in Internal Family Systems therapy in April 2003; Crisis Prevention staff trainer; led various psycho educational groups with inpatient/outpatient mental health consumers; and led consumer groups in a chemical dependency program. She also has taught adult education classes in parenting and domestic violence, and developed and presented in-service to staff, consumers, and community members on topics related to mental health.

Ray Benaitis, Associate Director Of Business/Support Services

Ray joined Sertoma Centre in 2006 as Associate Director of Business & Support Services. His experience has been in distribution logistics and operations with major communication’s corporations.

Ray is a graduate of North Central College with a degree in Business Communications. As Associate Director of Business & Support Services, Ray is responsible for the direction of the Janitorial, Production, Transportation, & Maintenance Departments.

Laura Fisher, Associate Director of Finance & IT-Administration

Prior to joining Sertoma Centre as the Associate Director of Finance and Information Technology, Laura was employed at Community Healthcare System, Inc. for 11 years where she was the Corporate Controller. Laura has a Bachelors Degree from Purdue University with a double major in accounting and finance. She is a C.P.A., licensed in the state of Illinois. Her responsibilities include all aspects of accounting and finances for Sertoma Centre, as well as the administration of the agency computer network system.

Amy Chmura, Director Of Advancement and Communications

Before joining Sertoma Centre in 2011 as the Director of Advancement and Communications, Amy worked at the South Suburban Family Shelter for two years before joining Sertoma where she was the Donor Relations Coordinator. Prior to that, she was the Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator for the Animal Welfare League. Amy earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Murray State University in Kentucky. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Organizational Communications at Governor’s State University.

Linda Renardo, Director Of Human Resources

Linda comes to us from Park Lawn School and Activity Center, where she spent 23 years in community services. She is responsible for all human resource issues pertaining to recruitment, wages and salary, benefits, safety training, employee relations and government compliance.
